A prominent potato dealer in the Rosholt area for many years, Alex Firkus, 72, Village of Rosholt, died at 10 a.m. today at his home, where he had been seriously ill and confined to bed for three weeks. He had been in failing health for the past four years.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Alois Firkus, he was born Aug. 31, 1893, in Milwaukee. The family moved to Stevens point when he was a child, and he attended schools here.

As a young man he moved to Rosholt where he began his potato business. On May 3, 1915, he married the former Ida Platta at St. Adalbert's Catholic Church in Rosholt. The couple settled at their present address.

Funeral services for Mr. Firkus are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Adalbert's Church, with burial to take place in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Dzikpski Funeral Home, where members of the St. Adalbert's Men's Rosary Society and the Sacred Heart League will recite a rosary at 8 o'clock tonight. A general rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Firkus is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. John (Grace) Knitter, Northlake, Ill., five sons, Chester Firkus, Chicago, Ill., Emil Firkus, Melrose Park, Ill.; Frank and Constantine Firkus, Milwaukee, and Myron Firkus, Rosholt; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, two brothers and two sisters.
