The saddest task and the most unwelcome duty the newspaper reporter is called upon now and then to perform, is to chronicle the decease of old and greatly beloved and revered friends. These solemn and sorrowful events are ever and continually recurring to sadden the heart and bedim the eye with tears, and remind us that,
"Tis not all of life to live
Nor all of death to die."
The GAZETTE is again called upon to make known another one of those sad bereavements that are continually falling to the lot of friends and relatives to undergo, in following their loved ones to their last resting place beneath the sod on some lonesome cemetery, out of sight and amid the great city of the dead.
John Brady, whose remains will be deposited in the cemetery at Union Church, about twelve miles South of the city at 10 o'clock to-day, was born in Lincoln county, Ky., May 9th, 1801. He came to Buchanan county in 1850 with his family and has resided here almost all the time since, until his decease at 8 o'clock yesterday morning from paralysis, having been afflicted and confined to his room for more than a year. He received a shock of paralysis Thursday morning, from which it soon became evident he could not recover. In 1860 he became a member of the Christian church and has been a consistant, devoted Christian, up to the time of his decease, being eighty years old when called from the trials and never-ceasing cares of this life. His wife, Mrs. Mary Ann Brady, left him to take up her abode in that better land about a year ago, at the age of 76, the terrible bereavement and shock of which produced paralysis from which he never rallied. He was the son of Mrs. Elizabeth Pope, who died at Forest City about a year ago at the age of 104 years, and who, it is said, to have been the first white child born on the soil of the State of Kentucky, while the heroic Daniel Boone was in all his glory as an Indian fighter in that historic State.
No man in the county was more prominent for his honesty of purpose and firm Christian devotion. To know him was to honor and love him. He had a large circle of friends and acquaintances who will deeply regret his loss, although afflicted for the past year almost unto death. He leaves seven children, five of whom reside in this county and two in Holt county and all of whom are honored and respected citizens.
The burial will take place at 10'oclock today at the cemetery near Union church, about twelve miles south of the city. All the friends of the family are requested to attend.
