Death of M. Farnsworth
Retired Capitalist Who Had Lived in Los Angeles Two Score Years and Owned Much Real Estate
Marshall Farnsworth, a retired and wealthy farmer, who had lived in Los Angeles for almost twenty years, died yesterday afternoon at his home, No. 645 South Flower street. Kidney trouble and old age were the causes of his death. He was 86 years old. Although the deceased had not been critically ill, he had been failing for the last year.
Mr. Farnsworth had lived in Los Angeles ever since 1882, and during his residence here has been largely interested in real estate and other property. Although not actively engaged in business, he has been a heavy investor. He was born at Williamston, Vt., in 1815. He spent his boyhood there, and in early manhood moved to New York State. In 1840 he went to Muscatine, Iowa, and was there a prominent farmer and land owner. He remained in that vicinity until 1882, when he migrated to this city. He accumulated considerable property in Iowa, and came here a well-to-do man.
In 1873 Mr. Farnsworth was married to Miss Ruth J. Peck, who survives him. He leaves five children. They are Mrs. Eric D. Draper of Los Angeles, Mrs. Eliza E. Kelley of Belle Plains, Iowa; Mrs. Nellie Latta of Omaha, Neb.; John Farnsworth of Los Angeles, and Henry P. Farnsworth of Unadella, Neb.
Funeral services will be held at Bresee Bros'. undertaking rooms this afternoon at 2 o'clock.
