Jerome was a B-24 crew member during WWII. He retired from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) in 1980 after 39 years of service. He was a long-time member of the PSP Rodeo team. Jerome was instrumental in creating the PSP Veterans Memorial Gardens located at the PSP Academy to honor those troopers/soldiers who died serving our country.
Jerome was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and he was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus. He was a volunteer with the St. Joan of Arc School and religious education program. He was a long-time member of the Hershey Italian Lodge where he was active in the Bocce league and an avid camera collector.
In addition to his loving wife, Jerome is survived by his 10 children: Mauree Gingrich (Cal), Patricia Golembewski (Charles), Barb Keller (Gerry), Jerome M (Heidi), Eileen Sharkey (Mike dec'd), Kathy Willis (David), Joe (Lori), Peggy Schroeder (Paul), Anne
Hayward (Bob) and Tim
(Kathy). He will be dearly missed by his 29 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Jerome is also survived by one sister, Rita Flannelly and two brothers, Myles and
Thomas. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jill and five siblings.
Jerome was a true sports fan who loved watching all Notre Dame sports. He was a proud Irishman who celebrated life to the fullest. He treasured God and the blessings brought by his large close-knit family. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him.
A viewing will be held, Thursday, March 17, 2011 from 6 -9 PM in the Hoover Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. of Hershey. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 5:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 18, 2011 at 11 AM in St. Joan of Arc Church, Hershey. Burial with honors will follow in the Hershey Cemetery.
