OBITUARY (published in The Tecumseh NE Chieftain, 29 Aug 1885, Sat., Page 5)

Allen D. Brooke who died in this city August 18th, was born in Allegheny county, Maryland, almost four score years ago, his age being 79 years and 5 months. He was of English ancestry and traced his lineage so far back as the sixteenth century, many of his ancestors having been prominent and titled men of that remote period. The embarkation to America dates previous to the Revolutionary war. The father of the deceased had the honor of christian baptism performed by Rev. Edward Garrett, his sponsors were Col. John Thomas (of Guards) and his Lady Sophia, sister to the Earl of Albemarle. His father, Thomas F. Brooke served in the American army as a surgeon in the war with the mother country in 1812. The subject of our sketch married Rachel Michael in 1829 and removed to West Virginia. In 1869 he came to Nebraska and settled on a farm in Nemaha county. Mrs. Brooke died here six years ago. The family consisted of nine children, eight of whom were daughters, the son being T. H. Brooke, of this city. Mr. Brooke was known to all the older residents of Tecumseh, and was highly respected. His was a long, useful and active life. For nearly eighty years he had fought the battle and kept the faith. His life covered the most important period of American progress and development, and he always took an active interest in national and religious affairs. His long life has closed and he sleeps on the hillside by his life companion, but he has left a high example for his children to emulate and his large number of sincere friends to follow.
