A native and lifelong resident of Pierce County, Mrs. Melton was a homemaker and attended First Baptist Church in Blackshear. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and she loved her dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert Sloan and Gertrude Rose Griffin Sloan; and a brother, John "Punk" McKee Groover.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Melton of Blackshear; three daughters, Jacki Parker (fiancé Kevin Owens) of Waycross, Erin Mincey (husband Greg) of Blackshear, Scarlet Melton of Waycross; a son, Kenney Parker of Berry, Ala.; four sisters, JoAnn Jones of Blackshear, Teresa Emmons (fiancé Dale Beckham) of Blackshear, Sue Berry (husband George) of Alex City, Ala., Velma Sosa (husband Julio) of Blackshear; two brothers, Lloyd Groover of Alex City, Ala., Jed Sloan (wife Terri) of Mershon; three grandchildren, Ashley Mincey, Greg Mincey Jr., Layla Melton; a special friend, Mary Colleen Clark of Waycross; several nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Friday evening (March 11, 2011) at the funeral home.
The funeral for Mrs. Melton will be held 12:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon (March 12, 2011) from the chapel of Pearson-Dial Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Hortense Cemetery.
