Millard E. Austin, 72, South New Berlin, died February 22, 1963 at his home following a heart attack. He was born August 26, 1890 in South New Berlin, son of Daniel Webster and Sarah (Conde) Austin.

On January 10, 1912 he married Ina Bisbee, who survives.

Other survivors include one son, Harlow Austin of South New Berlin; three daughters: Esther Brooks of South New Berlin, Helen Austin of Windsor and Mildred Silliman of Sidney; five grandchildren.

Mr. Austin was a member of the South New Berlin Fire Department for 57 years. Mr. Austin served several terms a chief and also served as Fire Commissioner. He was instrumental in reorganizing and equipping the present company into a modern and active unit. Mr. Austin also served three years in the Binghamton Fire Alarm Service.

In addition to his fireman's activities, Mr. Austin participated prominently in community school affairs, served as a member of the Board of Education and was an active organizer when the South New Berlin School was established.

A baseball enthusiast, Mr. Austin served for many years as South New Berlins team manager and frequently umpired baseball games in the area.

He was a retired electrical contractor and agent for the Vermont Evaporator Company; a member of the Central N.Y.S Maple Producers Association and a well known maple syrup producer.

Funeral services were held Sunday February 24 from the Tamsett Funeral Home in South New Berlin with Rev. Kenneth Simpson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be made later in Riverside Cemetery, South New Berlin.
