Ernest Estel Anderson, age 86 years and 7 days, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, Sunday, February 20, 2011.

Ernest was born February 13, 1925 in Creekmore, Kentucky to the late K.D. Anderson and Bertha Jones Anderson. He grew up in Pine Knot, Kentucky during the Great Depression. Ernest was a Veteran of the Fifth United States Army Air Corps, having served during the end of WWII. He was a 55-year Journeyman Iron Worker for the Lake States Engineering where he worked 35 years on many of the Chicago sky rises. Ernest enjoyed many activities such as football, baseball, horseracing, hunting, fishing, and bingo.

Preceding him in death is his parents; his wife of more than 50 years, Lillie Jo Rhew Anderson; a daughter, Sheila Lin Behrenfeld; a brother, Ezra Owen Anderson; sisters, Evelyn Peterson and Irene Spenard.

Survivors include his sons, Charles Anderson and his wife, Faye, of Parish, Alabama, David Anderson and his wife, Lisa, of Palatine, Illinois, Edwin Anderson of Naperville, Illinois, Bruce Anderson of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Greg Anderson and his wife, Angela, of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughters, Brenda Pugh and her husband, Ron, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Patti Pugh and her husband, Ben, of Warrior, Alabama, Katherine Saunders and her husband, Luke, of London, Kentucky, Karen Anderson of Stearns, Kentucky; Nineteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and a special friend Christine Cash.

Funeral Services were held Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Whitehead officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Knot Cemetery with full Military Honors.
