Johnston Brandon died in the car on the way to church, December 30th, 1945. Driving Johnston's car was his son-in-law, Bruce Norwell Herron. In the back seat was his wife Nellie Brandon, daughter Maude Herron, and grandson, Garland (Gary) Herron. Witnesses describe Johnston leaning forward as though stretching, causing his hat to fall off. When Johnston didn't attempt to pick the hat up, the back-seat passengers knew what had happened.
