Wesley worked in the pasteurization of milk on the second floor of Abbotts. Raw milk had additional processing on the third floor. One day workers on the 3rd floor released a cleaning solution that produced gasses. The workers did this too soon and the gasses went to the second floor where Wesley was still working and he got sick. As a result, he was pensioned on $20 a week until he died of throat cancer caused by the accident.
