Dorotheia LaVern Baker DAMASCUS, Va. Dorotheia LaVern Baker, age 76, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 27, 2011. She was born the daughter of the late Quentin and Edith Colburn in Cleburne, Texas, and lived in Damascus since 1970. Widow of Jim Baker, Dot was a devout Christian, a loving mother, and devoted wife of 57 years. She adored learning and was an avid reader. Dot marveled at all of creation, from sunsets, to trees, to rocks and leaves, she found beauty in them all. She is survived by two sons, David B. Baker and his wife, Susan, of Cumming, Ga., and Dr. James E. Baker and his wife, Connie, of Damascus; one daughter, Laura B. Walls and her husband, Mike, of Bristol; four grandchildren, Carlton Baker, Valerie Walls, Cindy Baker, and Rebecca Walls; one sister, Neliene F. Clyborne and her husband, Arlo, of Green Mountain Falls, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2 at Garrett Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 3 at Garrett Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Price officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus. Pallbearers will be David Baker, Dr. James Baker, Mike Walls, Carlton Baker, John Baker, Curtis Eden, Mitchell Ratcliff, Jerry Hawkins, and Bryan Hall.
