Romanzo S. Luce, son of Stedman Luce and his wife, Polly Barnum Luce, was born in Virgil, Cortland county, N. Y., March 15, 1828, and died at his home in the town of St. Joseph, March 29, 1913, attaining the ripe old age of 85 years, 14 days. He received a common school education in Potter county, Pa., and also learned the trades of mason and carpenter. He was united in marriage to Orrilla Farrand, in Hebron., Pa., Nov. 15, 1856. To them were born twelve children, five of whom preceded their father to the spirit world: Alice S., Nettie E., George B., Meretta A., and Laura E. Those remaining to mourn the departure of their father are Mrs. Nellie Fetterly, Devon, Kansas, Webb R. of the town of Somerset, Mrs. Estella O. Dorgan of New Richmond, Mrs. Maud E. Krevinghaus of Stillwater, and Mrs. Linnie M. Annis, town of Richmond, Warren M. Luce, town of Somerset, and Ronald S. Luce, town of St. Joseph. In the early years of their married life, Father Luce and wife joined the Baptist church. He was attached to his family, always looking for the best interest of each.
