Lot enlisted during the Revolutionary War four times over two years. He first enlisted as a Corporal and later as a Sargeant, which was his rank at discharge in 1778.
He had some surveying experience in helping his father lay out the Cape Cod Canal, and he continued working as a surveyor in Ashfield, along with Ephraim Williams.
He was married to Deborah Howes in Yarmouth, MA in 1782, and they moved to Ashfield by oxcart in about 1791, settling in Spruce Corners, where they farmed for the rest of their lives. The cellar hole from their house is visible on the north side of a road running east from John Ford Rd., Parcel ID 9-0-49. A nearby meadow is named "Bassett Meadow" after them- see: edits.nationalmap.gov/apps/gaz-domestic/public/summary/608539

Lot and Deborah had 10 children, 7 of which lived to adulthood. His brother, Elisha Bassett Jr., moved to Ashfield after Lot & Deborah did, and built a house on "The Plain" that still stands near Bassett Four Corners, a crossroads named after Elisha.
