Dwight Lewis Sechrist, Jr. 84, of Pocatello, Idaho passed away peacefully with his loving family with him following a long and courageous battle with an extended illness on Saturday, February 26, 2011 in Pocatello. He was born on June 11, 1926 in Casper, Wyoming to Grace (Arner) and Dwight Lewis Sechrist Sr. Dwight grew up on the family homestead just outside of Casper, Wyoming. He graduated from Natrona County High School in Wyoming. He went on to further his education at Casper College then to Fort Collins A&M in Colorado where he finished with a Masters in Industrial Arts. Dwight served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorable discharged from the military in 1951. Among his hobbies, Dwight liked woodworking, gardening, fishing and camping. He was involved with the Colorado Boys Ranch at La Junta, Colorado, the Kiwanas and the Men's Club. He served on the Episcopal Church Board. He was also involved in the Kid's Rodeo in La Junta. Dwight married Susie (Ruth Elaine) Adams June 16, 1979 in La Junta. He leaves behind his wife Susie; brother David (Frances) Sechrist; sons, Mike (Nancy) Sechrist; daughter, Karen (Ed) Drysdale; as well as three stepsons; 20 grandchildren and 7 great grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald; two sisters, Mary and Ruby; and a son-in-law, Edward Drysdale.
As per Dwight's wishes, he has been cremated. The family will receive friends at a celebration of life at Downard Funeral Home, 241 North Garfield Ave., Pocatello (208) 233-0686 at 11:00 A.M. on March 5th, 2011. Then following, there will be a no host luncheon at Golden Coral on Yellowstone in Pocatello. Friends who wish may make donations in Dwight's Memory to Creekside Hospice, 4425 Burley Drive, Suite C, Chubbuck, Idaho 83202.
