A native of Long Beach, he graduated from Wilson High School and had a knack for finding Wilson grads wherever he went.

After high school, he joined the Army, served int he Korean War, then joined his uncle in the plumbing business. He worked in homes, then for the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Jerry had a daughter from his first marriage in 1956 named Vickie.

He met Maggie Fitzgerald in 1960 while sitting around an apartment-complex pool and married her two weeks later

They bought a house in Garden Grove in Garden Grove in 1961.
They adopted a son in 1966 and named him Duke after Jerry's idol, John Wayne.

After Jerry retired from the plumbing trade for over 40 years he took up golf and working out at the local gym. Jerry also loved spending time with family and friends.
