She married to Jesse Rea Bass, Sr. on 25 Jan 1922. They had at least the following children: Eleanor Mae Bass, Jesse Rae Bass Jr., Reuben Lee Bass, Carson Odell Bass, Jason Edward Bass, Charles Samuel Bass, and Billy Mack Bass. They lived on Bass Lane in Matthews, N.C. before it was bought and a housing development was put in. She was the daughter of Alexander Deese and Susan Leach.

The family "had a small dairy farm that fronted Sardis Road North and extended to McAlpine Creek." They then grew pumkins. They were featured in the Food section in the Charlotte Observor in Oct. 26, 1967.

A very detailed record of her life can be found in the book written by her daughter, E. B. Hayes (Mrs. Grayson Hayes). It is a biography of his daughters life but the first half is devoted to her childhood and family history. Excellent telling of Mecklenburg Co. / Union county history. The book is called GRAMFLAKES.
