Elmer was born Feb. 1, 1916 at Poonkinney CA. half way between Covelo and Dos Rios. When-ever he would write "Poonkinney" as his birth place most people would question it so he started writing "Covelo" at least it was on a map. He and our mother Evelyn ran off to Reno and married on Nov. 23, 1936. We lived in Ukiah and Covelo until 1948 when we moved to Williams were we've been since. Elmer was in the concrete and road construction business with two of his brothers, Frank and Jack. Hard work but honest work and it took it's toll on him and his two partners where-as they all died at the age of "62". I never heard him complain about the quality of life he experienced though I regret not asking more questions about their lifestyle at Poonkinney and the Martindale ranch across the Eel River. He worked as a roofer, carpenter, and the Covelo high school bus driver and custodian, a job he took when Lou English retired.
