Americo served as a Staff Sergeant & Left Waist Gunner on B-17G "Heavenly Body" #43-37776, 849th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin prior to the war.

B-17G #43-37776 took off, with a crew of 8 and 3 gunner instructors, on a night cross-country training exercise. While turning just North of Nailstone, near Ibstock, the aircraft's nose dropped and the port wing struck the ground. The machine was completely destroyed by fire and explosion. All on board were killed.

Americo was "Killed In Action" in the "Line Of Duty" in this crash during the war.
