Clarence H. Atkinson
(Pee Wee)
MATTHEWS, Ga. - Clarence Henry "Pee Wee" Atkinson, 64, son of the late Roxie Jane Atkinson and the late John W. Amerson, entered into rest Sunday morning, February 27, 2011 at his residence after a prolonged illness. Funeral services were Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00PM with Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating. Interment in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Pee Wee was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. His favorite pastime was fishing, mostly brim, and was a huge NASCAR fan-Jimmy Johnson being his favorite driver. Surviving not only Vietnam but three accidents in which he was critically injured, and then battling cancer for the last decade, he was in pain everyday for over 40 years; however he never complained but always quietly accepted these tribulations and maintained a positive attitude. His will to live was strong and bravely fought to survive every day. Pee Wee was a true inspiration to everyone. This quiet, unassuming man who instilled courage and strength to us will be greatly missed. Pee Wee is also preceded in death by his companion of 30 years, Sara Prescott; a brother, James Atkinson, and a sister, Mary Jane Simpson. His survivors include his brother, Johnnie Atkinson (Darlene); two sisters, Virginia Allen (JT) of Cornelia GA, and Catherine Petrea (Jimmy Duke) of Hephzibah; two half-sisters, Bessie Atkinson and Lucille Stewart; a special step-daughter, Jane Wood; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Brassell, Greg Coursey, James Hollingsworth, Dennis Prescott, Keith Simpson and Kevin Simpson. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Louie Scharff and Joe Jenkins. James Funeral Home - Wrens, GA. Published in The Augusta Chronicle from February 28 to March 1, 2011
