Ray Edward McGranor, 84, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY, following a brief illness. Born on January 15, 1927 in Fuller, PA, he was the son of the late James and Dorothy (Wonderling) McGranor.


Mr. McGranor was the oldest of a family of five brothers and two sisters. Ray graduated from Reynoldsville High School and immediately joined the United States Army. He served in the Army, during World War II from April 20, 1945 until his honorable discharge on December 7, 1946. Mr. McGranor served primarily in Italy and Switzerland in the 349th Infantry. During his service, Ray attained the rank of Corporal as a Radio Repairman. Upon his return, he soon migrated to Niagara Falls, NY in search of employment. Mr. McGranor was first employed at Vanadium Metals in Niagara Falls, NY, then American District Steam in North Tonawanda, NY. Ray met the former Martha Pennington in Niagara Falls, NY and they married on September 3, 1948. He was also employed by International Paper Company of Niagara Falls for sixteen years, until their closing. Residing in the Town of Niagara, NY for the past fifty-five years, Mr. McGranor worked for Occidental Chemical as an operator in the Caustic Unit, for twenty-one years, until his retirement in 1989.


Prior to his departure, Mr. McGranor mentioned thanks to his friends at Dave's Last Chance and the Jetport for always taking good care of him.


In addition to his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Mr. McGranor is survived by one son, Ray (Diane) McGranor of Wheatfield, NY; three grandchildren, Kellie and Michael McGranor and Cassandra Kercado all of Niagara Falls, NY; one great-granddaughter, Brianna Kercado of Niagara Falls, NY and his brothers and sisters, Alberta, Maxine and Clifford all of the DuBois, PA area and Richard and Donald of the Cleveland, OH area.
