Youngest of five children of Johann Adam and Louisa Koerner Steinberg, Charles took a degree from Gem City Business Col. of Quincy in 1902 and began work in the Fairbury Bank where he remained until the Crash of 1929-30. He then worked for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and also sold insurance.

He married Mary Lucretia Mitten on Oct. 7, 1914 in Fairbury, IL. They had three children: John, Richard & Mary Louise.

He was a lifelong Methodist and member of Fairbury Methodist Church where he sang in the choir well into his 80's. He also played a cornet.
