Probably the eldest of five children of James M. and Sarah Pepperworth Martin, he farmed in Wayne Co. IL all his life.

Charley married Rose Mahalie Keeling on 16 April 1905 in Golden Gate, IL. They had one son Jesse Allen (1902-1948) They divorced.

Charley married Sarah (Sally) Catherine Snelling on Feb. 25, 1909 in St. Louis, MO. They had five children
