Bower Rites
Dan E. Bower, 86, died Tuesday, August 7, 1956, at his home 2 1/2 miles west of Chanute, Kansas, following an illness of 10 days.
Born on Oct. 15, 1869, in Sevastopol, Indiana, the son of John Gottlieb and Nancy E. (Creachbaum) Bower.
He was a retired farmer, had spent more than 80 years on the same section of land near Chanute.
He was married to Laura L. (Hodgden) Bower on March 19, 1903 in Chanute, Kansas.
He was a member of the Christian Church and IOOF (Oddfellows).
Surviving are his wife; four sons, Daniel E. Bower, Jr. , Emmett W. Bower , W. Fred, and Hugh C. Bower , all of Chanute, KS; three daughters, Mrs. Glenn E. Hanson Arletta M. (Bower) Hanson , Mrs. C. W. Huffman Ellen E. (Bower) Knock , Chanute, KS, and Mrs. Roy Brower Nellie C. (Bower) Brower , Moran, KS; one sister, Mrs. Rose (Bower) Ernzen , Chanute, KS; a brother, Fred Monroe Bower , Chanute, KS; 13 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
A daughter, Golda May Bower , preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be held in the Wilson-Johnson Chapel, Thursday afternoon, August 9, 1956, at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Ted D. Hurst will officiate and interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Chanute, Kansas."
