Thomas was the son of John Gillon and Mary Smith of Falkirk, Stirlingshire. He was the 4th of nine children:
Alexander, Jean, William, Thomas, Elizabeth, Thomson, Jean, Adam, and Mary Gillon.

Two dates are found for Thomas and Euphemia, daughter of John Cronin and Ann Clink: Wedding Proclaimed/Banns read April 22, 1838 in Glasgow;
Marriage May 11, 1838 in Falkirk. The Gillon children were born in Falkirk beginning in 1841 but they are found in the 1841 census of Govan Parish in Glasgow, so perhaps Thomas had a residence in each place.

Their children:
John Gillon
Ann Gillon
Robert Gillon
Helen Gillon

Thomas was a tailor.
No official death record or burial has been found.
