Longtime Anchorage resident Mildred "Lois" Harrington, 80, died April 6, 2009, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. In memory of her life, a visitation with a funeral were held at Witzleben Legacy Funeral Home, 1707 S. Bragaw St., in Anchorage.
Lois was born May 26, 1928, in Earl, Ark., the daughter of Ira and Gertrude Strickland Smith. Lois arrived in Alaska in 1954 and worked for the U.S. Army at Fort Richardson, retiring in 1979. Lois will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, family historian and genealogist. Lois was a longtime member of the DeBarr Church of Christ. A true Southern lady, she was known for her culinary talents and gracious hospitality. Her infectious laugh and caring smile always lit up the room. She is loved and will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.
Lois is survived by husband of 52 years, George T. Harrington; daughter, Donna and son-in-law Tom Carrier of Hampton, Tenn.; daughter, Peggy Kenda of Roundup, Mont.; brother, David Smith of Fort Worth, Texas; sisters-in-law, Dot Smith of Irving, Texas, and Joan Smith of Rosemount, Minn.; granddaughter, Tanya Roller of Orlando, Fla.; grandson, Kevin T. Carrier of Anchorage; grandson, Jim Landis of Kenai; grandson, Chris Fedor of Daytona, Fla.; granddaughter, Tosha Burnett of Roselle, N.J.; great-grandsons Tommy and Darin Carrier of Anchorage; great-grandsons Charlie and Josh Roller of Orlando, Fla.; great-grandson, Hayden, and great-granddaughter, Chelsea Howard, both of RAF Lakenheath, England; as well as numerous nieces and nephews throughout the United States. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lloyd, Louis and Joseph Smith; and sisters, Maryann Smith and Louise Taylor Carter.
