Robert Lawrence Adkins, 60, of Big Spring died Thursday, February 24, 2011, at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Rev. Keith Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

Robert was born October 18, 1950, in Big Spring to Robert G. Adkins and Fannie Bell Allen Adkins.

He graduated from Big Spring High School in December, 1969, a few months following the death of his father.

After graduating from high school, he attended Howard County Junior College and West Texas State University in Canyon.

Robert followed the footsteps of his grandfather and father and went to work for the railroad. He completed just over 30 years for the Union Pacific before his health required him to take a medical leave.

Robert is survived by his three children, Lara Spalding of Big Spring, Cassandra Gamboa of Edgewood and Brian Adkins and wife Lezli of Canton; his mother, Fannie Bell Adkins of Big Spring; his sister, Debbie Howard and husband Monty of Clyde; two granddaughters, Skydra Sanford of Big Spring and Drea Gamboa of Edgewood; his nephews, Courtney Shaffer of San Angelo and Matthew Howard of Stephenville; his niece, Jennifer McBee of San Antonio; and his aunts, an uncle and several wonderful cousins and friends.

Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
