Thelma T. Miller, 89, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on February 19, 2011 at the Brian Center in Monroe. She was born on April 14, 1921 in Los Angeles, a daughter of the late Max and Lillian Friedman Schon.

She graduated with an AA degree from Los Angeles City College in 1941. During WWII, she worked as a riveter for Douglas Aircraft (a la Rosie). Thelma worked in later years in retail sales, but her greatest joy in life was being a mother to her three sons. She fully embraced the role of mother and homemaker during her children's formative years, raising a family that was extremely close, a testament to her love.

Thelma and her husband Joe were married for 60 years. He passed away four years ago, almost to the day. She is survived by two of her three sons, Mic Elvenstar and Richard Miller. A third son, Alan Miller, passed away eight years ago. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Miyoko Hiramine, and grandchildren Cory and Gideon Elvenstar, and Shane, Mina and Tadato Miller. Additionally, she is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Edgar Simon and their family.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Salisbury National Cemetery.
