Sophia Wigren Anderson was born in Misterhult near Vastervik, Kalmar, Sweden. She met August Anderson while she was working as a house maid in Malingsbo, Dalarna, Sweden. They were married in Malingsbo, then moved to Stockholm where August was working as a painter. They emigrated from Sweden to Chicago in 1888. She had one son, Harald (1881-1881) and four daughters, Alma Anderson Walter (1876-1946), Esther Anderson Hunter (1884-1909), Emmie Anderson (1886-1889), and Sigrid Walter Barz (1891-1978).
