Spotlight
E. M. Fletcher

Our spotlight this month is on Mr. Fletcher. E.M. has been a valuable volunteer for over 10 years. Not only is he such a hard worker but his work through the years earned him the E. M. Fletcher Day at Ragan Weslyan Church.

E.M. started teaching Sunday School in 1952 and became a Lay Speaker in 1957. He was certified as a Sunday School Teacher Instructor by the Wesleyan Church. After teaching Sunday School for 28 years he was licensed by the Western District as a Lay Minister and Lay Speaker. E.M. had 5 years of perfect attendance while teaching Sunday School. He has served as Sunday School Superintendent for 6 years, served on the District Board for 3 years and on the Board of Administration for Firestone and Regan Weslyan Churches.

Because of all of his hard work and dedication he was honored on the "E. M. Fletcher Day." He said when he walked into the auditorium he was so surprised and overwhelmed. He could hardly control himself. There were 3 rows of his family and everyone was taking pictures. He received a large plaque and the entire service was dedicated to all his good works.

E. M. and his wife Juanita began their volunteer work at Gaston Memorial in 1981 after retiring from Firestone Mill. Juanita worked for 5 years in the E. R. while E. M. worked in Messenger Service. Juanita was stricken with Lou Gehrig's Disease and only after her death did E. M. return to work. He has served Gaston Memorial by serving on several different services.

In 1993 E.M. was diagnosed with throat cancer. After havong surgery he quickly learned to use the artificial voice box so he would be able to communicate with all his friends.

After being asked why he has given so much of his time and love to the Auxillary he said "I have met so many wonderful people that I had not met before. I can't call all of their names but they know who I am talking about." Thank you dear ones, for your wonderful friendship to me and out wonderful fellowship that we now enjoy. On the days that I come to the hospital I get up bouncing around and can hardly wait to get there to sign in. Thank you for your wonderful smiles, your friendship and for asking me to help you. It is so wonderful to work with Barbara Forrester, Melody Teague and Fitz Downing. Also, all the wonderful people that I can do things for. I would also like to let everyone know how much I appreciated your caring and sharing and your concern for me while I had surgery. Thank you also for your prayers.

E. M. is a very dedicated man. Please let him know how much we appreciate him.

Special Occasions by E.M. Fletcher

The Fletcher Family 1994 Reunion

We the family welcome each of you, especially our special guest, The Rev. Richard and Myrtle Stanley, The Rev. Leo and Betty Pickering and our new Pastor at Ragan Wesleyan Church, The Rev. Randal Johnson and his wonderful wide Lisa and three lovely children. All other special guests that we have. I recently had my twelve months check up own my surgery and wanted to report to you. I still have lots of swelling, numbness in my throat and face. My Doctor says this is all normal procedure for this type of surgery. My biggest problem is I am not able to talk much. My voice just will not come through my throat as I wish it would. I have never questioned God why he permitted this to come upon me but I know that he has a purpose, plan, program and preparation for my future. My greatest desire and will is for me to know God's will for my future life and to do that will what ever it is and may be. I awoke this Thanksgiving morning just thanking God for my past life for my family, friends, and people like you. I trust him for the present and future of my like. I just want to spend the future of my like and just burn out for him. Thank each of you for your love, concern, prayer, and kindness for and to me. If God never anything else for me I think him for what he has done. I wish to close this letter with one of my favorite illustrations. There are one of two ways which we may leave this world. God will call us home or he will come after us in the rapture. If he calls me home first I will go down to the Jordan river where Elisha and Elijah were, where my mother, daddy, two brothers and my wife Juanita crossed over Jordan to go home to be with the master. I will cross over there and go meet them. They are there with out stretched arms waiting for me. After I meet the master, my parents, brothers, my wife Juanita then I will turn and face the west bank of the river, stretch out my arms toward the west bank and wait for all you others to come on over, if you go before I do please cross over and meet the savior, your family, friends, and loved ones. Then and face the west bank with out stretched arms and just wait for me for I am on my way. If there is any one who reads this letter is not ready to cross over when your time comes, you still have time to prepare and get ready. I love each of you. Most of all God loves you and the master is waiting for you to come on over. Thank you for coming. If I should never see you again I'll be waiting for you. The Fletcher family thanks you for coming and invite you to meet our new pastor, his wife Lida and their three lovely children. If any of you do not attend church any where we invite you to come visit with us here at Ragan Wesleyan Church.

Exlice Monroe Fletcher.

He continues with:

I am the first to realize that I haven't always been perfect and have made many mistakes and blunders but as soon as I realize that I have I ask God to forgive me and anyone who I may have offended or hurt. God has never failed me yet. When God saved me he did three things for me and gave me something special: They are,

First: He gave me a new heart. My old heart was embedded in sin. He gave me a not a transplant or by passed but a new one. Thank God for it.

Second: He gave me a new start. I had been traveling the wrong way and going the wrong way. He turned me around and showed me a new and another way to go. I needed to change my directions. He showed me the new way to go.

Third: He gave me a new life. My past wife was warped. Twisted. And embedded in a sinful life. Thank God he gave me another chance by giving me a new life and chance to start all over again.

Something special: When I turned to leave the alter of prayer where he forgave me I saw a nailed scarred hand reaching toward me. In that hand was a blood stained banner being offered to me. I reached out and accepted it. As I went to catch hold of it he said to me, my child the is my blood stained banner all I want you to do is just carry it as you travel down the new road of life that I have given to you. Dear ones I have tried to carry this blood stained banner for these forty-seven years. Some time I have dropped it and turned to pick it up there was that nailed scarred hand with that banner in it. He was handing it back to me with a out reach of love and forgiveness.

HE HAS NEVER FAILED ME YET HE WILL NOT FAIL YOU:

I waish to thank God for this special reunion, for my wonderful family friends like you and for you coming to help us celebrate this special occassion. We love each of you very much.

Thank you for standing by me this past year especially when I was in the hospital and when I came home. One year ago today Thanksgiving day, the Wonderful Rowland family brought me their Thanksgiving dinner.
