Hannah Gillis was born in Kilwaughter Parish, Antrim Co., Northern Ireland on Nov. 21, 1813. She was the youngest of six children born to William Gillis and Hannah Daugherty. She married Robert Hamilton in 1838 and they emigrated to Canada in 1839, the same year as her older brother Samuel.

Hannah and Robert had 6 daughters:
Eliza (1844-1926) m. Andrew Ritchie – Living in Alpena Michigan in 1900
Jane (1846-1848)
Hannah (1847-1918) m. Wm. Holmes (1836-1914) – lived in L'Orignal
Joyce (1850- ) and Margaret (1850-1917) were twins, never married and lived in L'Orignal
Nancy (1853-1891) m. Truman Draper (1854-1930) – lived in Pontiac Co., Quebec

Hannah Hamilton died in 1887 in L'Orignal. There is no headstone for the family plot.
