Francis M. Bromagen, 62, Union City, Ind., died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at his home.

He was born February 16, 1948 to the late Robert R. and Carrie (Fogleman) Bromagen. He graduated from Union City Community High School in 1966. He served with H Troop, 17th Cavalry, Americal Division in Vietnam 1968-1969. He received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. A mechanic and a truck driver, he worked as maintenance supervisor for White Pass of Alaska for several years. He worked the past 10 years as a mechanic at Aukerman's Service before retiring in May.

He was known for his strong work ethic, his ability to fix just about anything and his willingness to help. He was steady and dependable. He loved his wife's family as his own, and they loved him in the same way.

Survivors include: his wife of 36 years (two terms, 18 years each), Cynthia Aukerman; his sister, Beverly (husband Danny) Flatter of Union City, Ind.; his mother-in-law, Alberta Aukerman and brothers-in-law, Jan and Allen Aukerman, all of Union City; a sister-in-law, Bonita Aukerman Young of San Diego, Calif.; nieces and nephews, Tyler (Jennifer) Aukerman, Amy (Jason) Stump, Michael J. Young, Ryan Young, Tara Young, Rhonda Flatter, Debbie (Gary) Braun and Beth Ann Weaver; aunts and uncles Marylin and Tom Price, Marty Hunt and Jim Eby, Richard Aukerman, Maxine Schricker, Billie and Cy Whitesel and Walter Mills; and cousins by the dozens, great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Reichard Funeral Home, Union City, Ind., with Monte Poling officiating. Burial is at the Brethren Cemetery on State Line, north of Union City.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic Lodge of Sorrow at 7:45 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Brethren Church Cemetery Fund, 120 E. Oak St., Union City, Ohio, 45390. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
