Adelina F. Chavez, of Tularosa, passed away Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, in Plano, Texas. She was born to Josefita Valenzuela and Wesley Fields on Aug. 20, 1918.

She is survived by her loving caregivers, son-in-law Ralph Garcia and granddaughter Veronica Garcia, of Plano; children Josephine Corey, of League City, Texas, Raymond and Joan Chavez, of Lancaster, Calif., Bernadette Chavez of Mescalero, and Stella and Ralph Garcia, of Plano; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild due in August.

She was preceded in death by her mother Josefita Lopez; her husband Victoriano S. Chavez; and sons Victor (Wesley) and David Chavez.

The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at the church with Father Max Hottle, O.F.M., as celebrant. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Veronica Garcia, Annie Thomas, Diane Bukowski, Whitney Poteet, Steven Chavez, Chris Chavez, Michael Gutierrez Daniel Gutierrez, Ralph Garcia Jr., Sean Sullivan, Jodean Garcia, Ryan Sullivan, and Alan Garcia.

The family invites friends to gather at the Tularosa Community Center following the interment from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, to remember and celebrate her life, a life that mattered.
