Carl Wilhelm Botsch was born in Freidland, Prussia, Germany. He and his family came to the United States in 1873. Carl farmed in North Hempstead, NY, and his sons continued in his footsteps. He married Amelia A. Roepke in about 1876 and they had seven surviving children: Otto, Mina & Elizabeth (twins), Charles William, Henry John, Edward Ludwick, and Emil Henry. Carl was a founding member of St. Paul's German Presbyterian Church in Elmont, where he and Amelia are buried.
