Mrs. Edna "Gene" Byrd Attaway

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Sunday, February 20, 2011, Mrs. Edna "Gene" Byrd Attaway, 80, wife of the late Lee Roy Attaway.

Mrs. Attaway was a native and lifelong resident of Richmond County. She was a 1946 graduate of Tubman Girls School. Mrs. Attaway was a member of Mize Memorial United Methodist Church, Mann Memorial United Methodist Church, the Walters Sunday School Class, and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Bayvale Homemakers and the Mize Sunrisers. Mrs. Attaway worked at Metropolitan Life from the late 1940's until retiring in 1987.

Family members include her daughters: Margene White (Richard) of Evans, Mary Cowart (Greg) of Augusta; son, Lee Attaway (Tracey) of Augusta; seven grandchildren: Gina White, Daniel White, April Canipe (Rhett), Matt Cowart, Dillon Attaway, Jacob Attaway, Shelby Attaway; and two great-grandchildren: Rileigh Canipe and Jett Canipe.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Mann Memorial United Methodist Church with Jim Joiner officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Thomas Atkins, Gene Hollins, Johnny Hollins, Bryan Adams, Paul Barnes, Ray Allen, and Ed Presnell.
