Barbara Barnes, age 62, of North Platte, passed away February 13, 2011 at her daughter's home in Bellevue, Nebraska. She was born September 17, 1948 in Torrington, Wyoming to Martin and Minnie Gilbreath Meyer.
She and her family moved to North Platte when she was young. She graduated from North Platte High School with the Class of 1967.
In 1967 she married Frank Barnes. She worked at the Cedar Bowl, Tucker's Ramada Inn, the Country Club and the Air Port Inn.
Barb was an avid bowler. She loved to collect teddy bears and salt and pepper shakers. She really enjoyed being at the lake and water-skiing. She also loved watching the Huskers play football, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include 4 daughters, Susan (Tom) Councell of North Platte, Christy Wolfe of Rapid City, SD, Stacy (Jeff) Weber of Bellevue, NE and Laura Barnes - Shannon of North Platte; 2 brothers, Larry and Roger Massengale; mother-in-law, Alice Irene Barnes; 6 granddaughters, Nicole, Katina, KyLee, Jaisa, Jade and Alexandria; 5 grandsons, Wesley, Samuel, Cody, Trevor and Jeffery; 2 great-grandchildren, Serenity and Conner; 2 brothers-in-law, David (Mary) Barnes and Fred (Charlotte) Barnes; and several nieces and nephews and friends.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; twin brother, Barry; and father-in-law.
A memorial has been established and online condolences can be made at www.adamsswanson.com.
Services will be Friday, February 18, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Berean Church with Pastor Bob Teeters officiating. Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, near Maxwell.
Visitation will be today and Thursday from 9 to 9 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
