Son of Louella Briggs and William Wilson Bumgarner. His parents had married in 1889 in Yell, Arkansas. His father had previously been married to and widowed by Mollie E. Lee (1864-1887). He had siblings: Maggie Martha, Ruth A., John Lee, Grace, Sidney N., Louella, and Mary.

In 1900, his parents and older siblings lived on a farm they owned in Case Township, Oklahoma (Cleveland County). The household included: William W., born August 1865 in Arkansas, Luella, born November 1872 in Arkansas; Maggie M., born February 1891 in Arkansas, Ruth, born November 1893 in Oklahoma, John L., born November 1895 in Oklahoma; and Grace, nine months, born August 1899 in Oklahoma.

In 1910, the family was living in a home they owned at 313 North Findley Avenue in Norman, Oklahoma (Cleveland County). The household included: William W., age 44, married twice, currently married 22 years; Louella, age 37, married once, currently married 22 years, six of nine children living; Maggie M., age 19, working as a dressmaker; Ruth A., age 16; John L, age 14; Grace, age 10, Weldon W., age 8; and Louella, age 4.

The household included: Weldon W., age 28, married at age 22, working as a laundry driver; Mildred M., age 23, married age age 16, born in Oklahoma; Charles W., age 5, born in Oklahoma; Jack E, age 3 6/12, born in Oklahoma; and James S., age 1 1/12, born in Oklahoma. In 1930, Weldon's widowed mother and youngest sister were renting at 226 1/2 Main Street in Norman, Oklahoma. His mother was working as a seamstress.

Weldon W. Bumgarner, 85, father of actor James Garner, died Saturday at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, Calif. Mr. Bumgarner, a retired warehouseman, also is survived by his wife, Grace; another son; a stepson; 11 grandchildren ; seven great-grandchildren, and a sister. Services will be today at the Church of the Hills at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills.
