Upon arriving in Vietnam 19 April 1968, Jerry was assigned to Kilo Company, 3rd
Battalion, 27th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.
During the month of May the battalion was participating in Operation Allen Brook,
in the vicinity of Le Bac (1), Go Noi Island, 4 kilometers west of the Liberty Bridge,
when the Marines encountered hostile forces. Jerry died as a result of a gunshot wound to the body from hostile rifle fire. The Marines lost 57 men and 3 Corpsman.
Survived by his parents, LeRoy and Pauline H Hilbert, his sister and brother; Shirley and Steven Hilbert all of 612 Winkler South Avenue, Louisville, KY.
