Visitation will be on Monday, March 22, at 9:15 a.m., at St. Raphael Church in Englewood, Fl., with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Venice Memorial Gardens.
Born on March 26, 1921, a native of Urbana, IL, Fr. Barry Kremer was a student at both St. Mary's school and Holy Cross School in Champaign, IL, before the family moved to Chicago where he attended St. Cyril's School.
After graduation, he enrolled at Mt. Carmel Preparatory Seminary in Niagara Falls, Ontario, to study for the priesthood in the Carmelite Order. He completed his first vows in New Baltimore, PA on Aug. 15, 1940, and his solemn profession at Whitefriars Hall three years after on the same day. He returned to his studies at Mt. Carmel College in Niagara Falls, Ontario and later to Whitefriars Hall in Washington, D.C., for Theology. He was ordained to the priesthood in Chicago on June 8, 1946. Father Barry also received a M.A. degree in Education from the University of Chicago.His first assignment was at St. Mary's Carmelite Church in Joliet, IL. That was followed by seven teaching assignments. He was a member of the faculty of the Carmelite Junior Seminary in Hamilton, Mass.; Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago and then Houston, TX., DeSales High School in Louisville, KY, Joliet Catholic in Joliet, IL., and Mt. Carmel High School in Los Angeles, CA.
Father Barry did parish work at St. Patrick's Church in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and St. Bernard's in Joliet, IL. He was a member of the Catholic Chaplains' group in Houston, TX, and the staff at the Veterans Administration in Augusta, GA, where he served until his retirement in 1991.
