Josephine G. (Lopez) Guardado, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at a local hospital.

Mrs. Guardado was born February 19, 1919 in Hiawatha, Kansas and later was raised in Atchison, Kansas. She is the daughter of
Guadalupe and Refugio (Mendez) Lopez.

On August 17, 1935, she married Pedro Guardado at Holy Rosary in St. Joseph, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1989.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Kathleen Guardado; one son,Louis Frank Guardado, and numerous brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Guardado spent her entire life caring for and raising her family as a homemaker. She was a devoted catholic and very active in St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking, but most of all loved her children, grandchildren and family. She made her home with her daughter, Pauline Mejia.

She had seventeen children, with fifteen surviving, who she referred to as her delicious apples, Juanita (Ralph) Cruz, Canyon City, Colorado, Theresa (Gary) Westcott, St. Joseph, Pauline Mejia, St. Joseph, Raymond (Janet) Guardado, St. Joseph, Carmen (Frank) Ellis, Kansas City, Delores Dyer, St. Joseph, Anna Marie (Ronald) Reno, St. Joseph, Michael (Lynette) Guardado, St. Joseph, Lupe Sparks, Purcell, Oklahoma, Robert (Barbara) Guardado, Parkville, Missouri, Charles (Donna) Guardado, Pedro Jr. (Deigh) Guardado, Maggie (Marty) Schnabel , Frank ( Kris) Guardado, Albert (Debbie) Guardado, all of St. Joseph; 27 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Lopez, Hampton, Virginia; 3 sisters, Tina Black, St. Joseph, Maria Felts, Madison, Mississippi; and Connie Olvera, St. Joseph.

Marachi Bi-lingual Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial 10 am, Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation will begin after 12 noon, Saturday and again at 9 am, Sunday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm Sunday evening with a Rosary at 6 pm. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
