STANFORD UNIVERSITY, Cal., May 24. — The class-day exercises of the graduates of '97 were held in the chapel today, attended by the seniors in a body and by their relatives and visitors. The exercises preceded the dedication of the class plate, one of the most interesting of commencement week features.

The faculty committee met today and decided the following members of the class of '97 were entitled to diplomas next Wednesday:

MASTERS OF ARTS

In Education — Caroline Frear, B.S., East Oakland; thesis: Punishment: a historical, sociological and pedagogical study.

Mrs. Willett of Palo Alto, Mrs. Winter, Misses Harriet and Anna Winter, Miss Blanche Terrill of Berkeley, Mrs. Frear, Misses Henrietta and Caroline Frear of East Oakland and several others have just started on a trip through the Yosemite Valley.

A Wedding
The marriage engagement was announced some time ago of Caroline Frear and Frederic L. Burk, both of East Oakland, Calif. Caroline Frear, born in Honolulu, is the daughter of Rev. Frear, formerly pastor of the Fort Street Church, and sister of Justice Walter F. Frear. Miss Frear was a visitor here for several months not long since. Frederic L. Burk is a well known educator. He was at one time superintendent of public Instruction for Sonoma County, Calif. Recently he took his Ph. D., degree at Clark University, Mass.
