PASSING OF WELL KNOWN DIVINE
FREAR – In Oakland, May 25, 1922, Rev. Walter Frear, D. D. beloved husband of Fannie F. Frear, and father of Mrs. L. L. Woodward of Santa Rosa, Henrietta Frear of Oakland, Mrs. Caroline Burke of Kentfield, Cal., Hugo Frear of Bethlehem, Pa., Hon. Walter F. Frear of Honolulu, H.I. and the late Dr. Philip F. Frear, a native of New York, aged 93 years, 9 months and 9 days.
Friends here of the family will regret to learn of the passing of Dr. Frear, who has on many occasions in the past, been a welcome visitor in Placerville.

PACIFIC COAST IN BRIEF.

The Rev. Walter Frear, of long time and valued service on the Pacific Coast, has attained to the age of eighty year. None, however, would estimate him, from appearance, to be more than seventy. Mr. Frear came to California in 1855, and the more than fifty years since that date have been spent in this state and in the Hawaiian Islands. For nearly twelve years he was the Pacific Coast secretary of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, to which work he gave the most painstaking service. Hearing that the people of Pilgrim Church. Oakland, were intending to surprise him by gathering at his home last Monday evening for an expression of their regard for him the editor of The Pacific betook himself thither, remembering the pleasant companionship he had had for many years with Mr. Frear in Congregational headquarters in the Y. M. C. A. building in San Francisco and the fellowship in Pilgrim Church for several years also. It was good to be there and to hear the words of Mr. Brooks, the pastor, as he spoke of what Mr. Frear had been to Pilgrim Church and to him and of the wide and fruitful service crowning his years. We can wish Congregationalism and the church kingdom on the Pacific Coast nothing better than that to Mr. Frear's.
