Wayne was born and raised in Pittsburg and lived there all of his life until he enlisted in the US Marines 3 October 1967, at a Pittsburg Recruiting Office.
After arriving in Vietnam 22 October 1968, Wayne was assigned to India Company, 3rd Battalion, 26th Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Operation Meade River was a multi-battalion seek and destroy operation in the vicinity of Dong Tien (2) and 6 kilometers west northwest of Dien Ban. The Marines
were engaged by a large group of hostile forces in a fortified hidden bunker complex by trees, Wayne died as a result of gunshot wound from hostile rifle fire. The Marines had 16 KIA's and 37 WIA's. The hostile forces had 91 KIA's and several taken prisoners.
Survived by his mother, Ruth C Hamilton and a brother, Kevin J of 231 Watson Blvd, Pittsburg and his father, Hervey J Hamilton of 2134 Rhine St, Pittsburg, PA.
