Son of Daniel and Lucy (Pratt) Emerson. Born in Reading, Massachusetts. Around 1800, his father moved to Lynnfield where he grew up and remained. He married Elizabeth "Betsey" Brown, daughter of Joseph and Mercy (Southwick) Brown, on 12 Sept 1812. They had 8 children before Betsey died in June of 1830. He then married Eliza Weston on 4 Nov 1830 and they had 5 children.
He was a Baptist and attended church at North Reading and served as deacon for 50 years. He was a farmer and trader. One entry on birth records gives his occupation as "butcher". The house where he lived still stands at Lynnfield, Massachusetts.
