Jane (Jennie) Tannahill Morton was born in Huntingdon, Quebec and came to Iowa with her family in 1855 when she was 9 yrs. old. After the war one of the soldiers that had fought with her father, came to visit the family and fell in love with her. Benjamin Ellis Morton married Jennie on Dec. 7, 1865. In 1872 they moved to Phillips Co. Kansas the community soon grew and was made of Union soldiers many from Iowa volunteer companies. They experienced many hardships of pioneer life as one of the first settlers, with their growing family. She and Benjamin helped to organize a Sunday School and a congregational Church which met in the Iowa Union Schoolhouse. They became prominent citizens of this community.
