The son of John and Edith Cromwell, he came to New England (According to "The History of Salem, MA" by Perley, Vol. 2, p. 143) probably on Mr. Stratton's ship about 1652 with his wife & children and in the company of his nephew, John. His brother, Philip Cromwell, had come to New England earlier.
Thomas Cromwell was called a tailor in a deed, and had a shop in Salem in the colony of Mass.* His age was given as 43 yrs. in 1660. He witnessed a will at Salem in 1654 and again with his wife, Ann in 1655 (NEHGR, VI. 249).
Thomas married Ann ___ about 1640 and their children as follows were baptized at Malmesbury, Wiltshire, England.

*The Malmesbury Monastery was sold to the clothier, William Stumpe ,in 1539. He used it to produce woollen cloth and this continued until about 1750. At the same time, the monastery was used as a parish church by the town with an attached graveyard. This would have been a good place to learn the trade of being a tailor.
