Buford Eldridge, 67, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday (February 2, 2011) at the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Born on May 27, 1943, in Occonita, Virginia, Buford accepted Jesus as his Savior many years ago.
He was a retired Medical Technician from the Mountain Home VA Medical Center. He was an avid hiker and loved the Appalachian Trail.
Buford was preceded in death by his parents, Cam and Florence Eldridge; one sister, Ruth Cooper; three brothers-in-law, Bobby Cooper, Jack Gollahon and Jim Hensley; and one great niece.
Buford is survived by: His wife of 45 years: Alice Geraldine Eldridge; One sister: Inas Hensley; Sisters-in-law: Virginia Gollahon and Judy Gollahon; Nieces: Jo Anne Cooper-Shroeder, Angelia Ward, Zena Buchanan and Candice Gollahon Sheppard; Nephews: Zane Hensley and James Hensley; Several great nieces and nephews; Special friends: Pamela and James Adkins.
Per his wishes, graveside services only will be held at Snodgrass-Minor Cemetery in Jonesville, Virginia, on Saturday, February 5, 2011, with the Rev. Gary Cope officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. to go to the cemetery in procession.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Buford's memory may be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, P.O. Box 807, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425-0807.
