William Duane "Bill" Cox Jr. was born February 26, 1940 in Silver Cliff, CO to William Duane Sr. and Eula Marie Hasty Cox. On February 3, 2011, he went home to be with the Lord.
When Bill was 7, he and his family moved to Lamar, CO. During this time, his cousin Ada Grace Ward came and stayed with the family. Bill had moved to Trinidad and lived with his beloved Uncle Bob and Aunt Avis and their two children Jimmy and Mavis for a couple of years. He then moved back to Lamar. The family stayed in Lamar for 8 years before moving to Topeka, KS. They stayed in Topeka for a short time before moving back to Lamar.
In 1965, he met Glenda Harrison. They were married May 15, 1966 in Castle Rock, CO. Shortly after they were married, Bill went to work for Plateau Natural Gas. March 1967, Bill and Glenda were blessed with their first of 3 daughters, Tammy. In January of 1969, they were blessed with a second daughter, Nikki. Soon after Nikki was born, Bill took a transfer to Woodland Park, CO. They lived there for a few months before moving to Hugo, CO. While in Hugo, they welcomed a third daughter, Tina, in October of 1971. In 1972, Bill was transferred to Lamar, CO. The family lived in Lamar for 3 years before settling down in Attica, Kansas. Bill retired from the gas company in 1993. He didn't like being retired and started working for the Hutchinson Salt Mine. In 2005, he moved to Anthony. In 2006, he had to retire from the Salt Mine due to knee replacements.
Bill enjoyed fishing, camping, tubing, his flower garden (or telling his kids and grandkids how to tend to his garden), watching movies, and entertaining and joking with his 10 grandkids. He also enjoyed Willie K-State, his favorite companion. He also had nicknames for his daughters and grandkids and never called them by their real names. He really loved to argue with his daughters about what college team and NFL team was better, and never rooted for the same team as they would. He never met a stranger and never hesitated to brag about his family.
In the last three weeks of his life, his family could see the love in his eyes and could feel the love in his hands for each of them. They shared many wonderful memories with him.
William is survived by his daughters, Tammy Cox, Cunningham, KS, Nikki Redgate and her husband, Landon, Anthony, KS, Tina Smolik and her husband, Tom, Bushton, KS; 10 grandchildren: Keith, Jennifer and Mackenzie Janet, Hailey and Allison Redgate, all of Anthony, Ashley and Taryne Shearer, Cunningham, KS, Michael and Mason Cox and Nicole Smolik, all of Bushton; one brother Fred Cox and wife Norma, Canon City, CO; special cousin, Ada Grace Fanitia, Great Bend, KS; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale Cox; and granddaughter, Katherine Margaret Shearer.
