John Milton Barnes, aged 80, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leonard Franklin [Sarah Ellen Barnes], Wednesday evening, January 26, 1933 Mr. Barnes came to the home of his daughter here [Clayton, Indiana] last July after spending some time with another daughter, Mrs. Anna Mitchell, [Lavica Ann Barnes] in Iowa, and was in very poor health from that time. He was twice married, his first wife [Lavica Barnes Mitchell's mother] only living a short time after they were married. The second wife, [Nannie Burns — Sarah, Lillian, Hester, Robert and Elizabeth's mother] died 36 years ago and since that time he has made his home with his children. He was a native of Kentucky but came here some forty years ago and has lived near here most the the time since. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lillie Hurst Gray of Cleveland, [Ohio] and Mrs. Ed Abrams [Hester Barnes Abrahms] of Indianapolis, besides the two before mentioned one, son, Robert Barnes of Plainfield; twenty six grandchldren and four great-grandchildren. For many years he had been a member of the Methodist church at Belleville [Indiana] and the funeral was held there Sunday afternoon in charge of Rev. R. O. Kimberlin, with burial in the Clayton cemetery.
