Robert Altus, Sr., age 61 of West, passed away October 21, 1998 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco.

A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. October 23 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, by Rev. Isidore Rozycki. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. October 24 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Rev. Isidore Rozycki as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Martin's Cemetery near Tours.

Mr. Altus was born on July 21, 1937 in West, the son of Herbert and Wilma Altus. He graduated from West High School in 1954 and then joined the United States Air Force. He worked as a parts analyst for Amoco Oil Company in Texas City for 23 years until he retired in 1997. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Texas City, Katy Railroad Historical Society and the Galveston County Model Railroad Club. His special hobby was to collect model trains. He grew up as a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Altus, who died in January of 1998.

He is survived by his father, Herbert Altus of Leroy; one son, Robert H. Altus, Jr. of Alvin; one daughter, Michelle A. Pioterek of Friendswood; two brothers, John Altus of Richardson and Tom Altus of Arlington; two grandchildren, Shelby Michelle Pioterek and Carson Michael Pioterek, both of Friendswood; and one niece and four nephews.

Pallbearers were Steven Altus, Darrell Altus, John Michael Altus, Brian Altus, Ronnie Grones and Donnie Grones.

Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
