A mans vioce on the phone yesterday was sad. He had lost a fellow craftsman. He said a man who died early yesterday was one of the areas last remaining master carpenters.

Walter Brewer had died. His death was being lamented by a man who had worked closely with him for many years.

Mr. Brewer, the man said, could build a stairway or do any other intricate job in building a home. His pride and skill were his motivation.

In fact, Mr. Brewer did much of the finish work in our own home many times, I have marveled at the how the doors all swing freely, how well the finish work was done back there a quarter century ago. I could tell that a skilled craftsman had done much of the work, but didn't know until yseterday that Mr. Brewer had been that master carpenter.
